Corrupt police officer leads to overturned convictions

The convictions imposed nearly 50 years ago against three men have been overturned. 

The three men were accused of stealing handbags in 1972. The "Oval four" as they became known spent eight months in custody. The Court of Appeal overturned their convictions due to the unreliability of the Detective Sgt Ridgewells evidence following his conviction for matters of dishonesty.
